Shaykh Fakhruddin Najafi says that a resident of Balkh used to perform the Hajj to the Kaaba and, after that, visit the Prophet’s tomb in Medina. He would then also visit Imam Zain ul Abidin (as) and bring with him some presents for the Imam (as). Once, his wife said, "You always take gifts for the Imam, but he does not give you anything in return."
By chance, when he met the Imam this time, the Imam was having his dinner. The Imam asked the man to join him. After dinner, the Imam offered to wash his hands, but the man declined, saying that, on the contrary, he would wash the Imam’s hands. As he began to pour water on the Imam’s hands, the Imam kept asking about the washing product, and the man continued to say that it was just water. However, the Imam kept changing the water into gems and ornaments. Eventually, when the tub was full, the Imam said, "Take this and give it to your wife so that she has no more complaints."
When the man brought those valuable items to his wife, she was astonished, wondering how the Imam knew what she had complained about. The following year, she accompanied her husband to visit the Imam. However, on the way, she passed away. The husband informed the Imam about it, and the Imam prayed to Almighty Allah. As a result, the wife returned to life and came to the Imam, testifying that it was he who had asked the angel of death to return her soul.
It is said that as long as the woman lived, she remained with her husband in the neighborhood of the Imam (a.s.) until both passed away.
